Manager Elissa Campbell Teaching at Magpie & Tiger
Gallery Manager and bookbinder Elissa Campbell is teaching a Japanese Bookbinding workshop this Sunday at Magpie & Tiger!
In the workshop, you’ll try your hand at Watoji or Japanese bookbinding. You’ll start off by learning the Yamato Toji, a binding which uses strips of paper instead of sewing thread. Next, four more traditional binding styles will be explored - Yotsume Toji (Four-hole Binding), Koki Toji/Kangxi (Noble Binding), Asa-No-Ha Toji (Hemp Leaf Binding) and Kikko Toji (Tortoise Shell Binding). Time permitting, you’ll also create an account book known as Daifuku Cho. You’ll leave class with 5 - 6 books and a basic knowledge of bookbinding technique.
There are still open spots in the workshop, so if you want to register, please visit Magpie & Tiger’s website. The price is all-inclusive and you don’t have to bring any tools or materials with you.
Feel free to contact Elissa at elissa@blueroofdesigns.com or stop by the gallery with any questions.
