Staff Pick!

Welcome to today's Staff Pick! Staff member Claire selected a vessel created by woodturner Kip Sabens.

Claire started off by saying that Kip's work is very impressive. "He goes out and looks for wood on the ground and can see in his mind's eye what to turn it into."

She also loves the variety of colors, patterns, and textures in the piece, which was made from a cherry burl (a burl is a growth that forms on a tree in reaction to a trauma, like an injury or infection). The fact that something that is essentially a tumor can be turned into something beautiful is incredible.

Kip Saben's studio is in Barre, Vermont.
